The Republican Party of Florida is deeply saddened by the passing of John E. Thrasher—a true statesman, devoted public servant, and principled conservative. In addition to serving as Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, he served as Speaker of the Florida House, State Senator, and President of Florida State University. John Thrasher dedicated his life to serving the people of Florida, guided by faith, family, and the strong values that define our party.

“John Thrasher was a mentor, a patriot, and a man of integrity. His faith never wavered, his principles never faltered, and his love for this state was unmatched. As Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida during the 2010 elections, he unified and stabilized our party during a critical time, paving the way for the victories Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, and our Republican Cabinet.”

“Whether crafting conservative policy in the Legislature, shaping young minds at Florida State University or setting a foundation for Florida GOP dominance as Chairman, John Thrasher led with conviction, humility, and strength. His legacy is one of service, character, and unwavering dedication to Florida. On behalf of the Republican Party of Florida, we extend our prayers to the Thrasher family. The Republican Party of Florida honors his extraordinary legacy and offers its heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. A celebration of his life will be held on August 19 at Florida State University’s Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.
