Democrat Leaders Must Condemn Nixon’s Vile Rhetoric Against Charlie Kirk

State Representative Angie Nixon disgraced herself and her office by unleashing vile attacks during a time of mourning. Instead of showing compassion, Nixon smeared Charlie Kirk’s name with hateful lies, calling him “homophobic, antisemitic, misogynistic…the list goes on and on” and even attacked Senator Rick Scott and Congressman Jimmy Patronis for honoring Kirk, calling them “a tool of white supremacy and I DID NOT STUTTER!”

Her words, delivered as Floridians and our nation grieve, reveal a bitterness and hatred unworthy of any elected official. While Floridians look for unity, Nixon is fanning the very division at the root of political violence and spitting on the memory of a man who dedicated his life to faith, family, and open dialogue.

Where are Florida’s Democrat leaders as she spews this rhetoric? Their silence is a clear endorsement of Nixon’s vile words. If they refuse to condemn her, they are complicit. We call on the following to speak out immediately:

  • Fentrice Driskell, House Minority Leader
  • Nikki Fried, Florida Democrat Party Chair
  • Christine Hunschofsky, Minority Leader Designate

Charlie Kirk’s life and words completely contradicted Nixon’s slurs. He often reminded us of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision, that all people should be judged “not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” He worked to strengthen the American family, urging fathers to step up, believing a stronger family unit could heal our nation. Nothing brought him greater joy than being a father—and now, two young children have been left without theirs because of political violence.

Kirk also lived out his biblical beliefs, led with compassion, and held a special love for the Jewish people and the State of Israel. That is why it is especially outrageous for Nixon to call him antisemitic. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself called Kirk a “Lion-Hearted Friend of Israel.”

“Charlie Kirk inspired millions to live boldly in their faith and to love this country,” said Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. “For Angie Nixon to spew this level of hate while Floridians are grieving shows a disturbing lack of respect and judgment. Her words don’t just dishonor Charlie’s legacy, they dishonor her office.”

“The real question here is, if Charlie was everything Nixon has claimed, wouldn’t his followers be rioting and burning down cities? Oh wait, we don’t do that,” said Power. “His followers instead are filling churches, praying for our nation, and holding vigils, because they know it’s what Charlie would have wanted. Peace and unity”

The Republican Party of Florida stands firmly against Nixon’s rhetoric. Florida deserves an answer from its Democrat leaders: Will they condemn Nixon’s hateful lies, or will they continue to stand by in cowardly silence?
