Florida Democrats Must Demand That Their Leaders Vote to Open the Federal Government

“We are holding Florida Democrats accountable for not demanding their congressional leaders vote to reopen the federal government as Republicans have voted to do so multiple times. Their irresponsible behavior is evident for all to see,” said Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power today urged Florida’s Democrat state lawmakers to demand their counterparts in Washington stop holding the government hostage and end the shutdown hurting American families.

“Florida Democrats should pick up the phone, call their friends in D.C., and tell them to stop playing games with the lives of American families,” said Chairman Power. “As we approach the holidays, hardworking Americans are being used as pawns in a Democrat power play. Enough is enough, reopen the government and put the American people first.”

Power noted that 43 Democrat State House and Senate lawmakers sent a letter warning about the shutdown’s impact on SNAP benefits, yet refuse to call out the Democrat members of Congress who won’t vote to reopen the government.

“Florida Democrats have some nerve lecturing anyone about compassion when their own party in Washington is holding families hostage,” Power added. “If they truly cared about the 3 million Floridians in jeopardy, they’d call on Chuck Schumer and demand Florida’s Democrats in Congress vote to reopen the government now.”
